Crowds returned to Milan Furniture Fair after 2-year hiatus | Lifestyles

MILAN (AP) — Italy’s furniture and design industry embraced the Milan Furniture Fair after a two-year pandemic delay with unapologetic, over-the-top statement pieces, multi-purpose furnishings adapted to small spaces, and sustainable creations by young designers pushing the industry toward a greener path.

After a surprising pandemic redecorating boom, the industry is looking to an uncertain future. There are raw materials shortages, higher transport costs and general economic uncertainty generated by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Sales of Italian furnishings surged to 16 billion euros (about $16.7 billion) in 2021, a 16% increase over 2019 and 25% more than 2020.

Despite the murky outlook, the world’s premiere furniture and design fair, known in Italian as Salone del Mobile, kept the focus on innovation as it recorded a rebound in attendance during six days of previews that closed Sunday.

Sudbury news: City welcomes accessible community garden


A fully accessible community garden is now open at Ryan Heights Playground in Sudbury.


Those involved in the project say they have removed a number of barriers to accessibility to ensure anyone with a green thumb can join.


“This was a huge need in the community,” said Kryslyn Mohan, youth program co-lead with Sudbury Shared Harvest.


“After multiple years of vandalism, this space was not only uninviting, it was inaccessible, it was unsafe.”


Mohan said they have installed accessible pathways that have the right width and appropriate turning space.


“We also have raised beds for a diverse number of needs for community residents, such as those who use wheelchairs, those who prefer to garden from a standing position and those with small kids who need beds that are closer to the ground,” she said.

Incisiv announced today the release of its 2nd Annual digital maturity benchmark report, 2022 Gift Card Program Index, sponsored by GiftNow, a Synchrony solution. The report highlights 18 retailers out of 75 benchmarked that offer the most mature gift card program experiences for shoppers, as well as recommendations for retailers to improve digital gift card capabilities.

While some gift card programs have evolved in the past year, legacy technology has limited the ability of many retailers to gain a competitive advantage and deliver customer value. According to Incisiv’s research, 67% of customers prefer instant gifting; however, only 12% of retailers currently offer gift card delivery via text message (SMS).

Kennesaw State Academy for Inclusive Learning student built skills for rewarding career

 


KENNESAW, Ga.
(Jun 29, 2022) — Because of a chance encounter in a home improvement store, Kennesaw State’s Academy for Inclusive Learning and Social Growth graduate Tyler Crawford has begun a rewarding career in retail.

Before he graduated in May, Crawford worked in the lighting department at a Home Depot
near campus three days a week as he finished up his studies at the academy, a program
for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Now he works at the store
full-time.

“I feel like the most interesting part about it is probably the customers, because
I like to help them with whatever kind of problem they have,” Crawford said of his
work at Home Depot. “A lot of times I get asked what’s the best item to buy. I may
not have the perfect answer all the time.”

A Grand Old Art Fair Returns, to a World That Has Changed

MAASTRICHT, the Netherlands — The European Fine Art Fair, known as TEFAF, was the international art market’s first major casualty of the coronavirus pandemic. It’s also been one of the last to return to relative normalcy.

On Friday, V.I.P.s attended the preview of the first in-person TEFAF Maastricht since March 2020, when the fair had to close early because an exhibitor tested positive for the virus.
