Homegrown spaghetti squash still serves fresh garden goodness | In The Bush

With four months behind us since harvesting the garden, our fresh homegrown supplies have dwindled as any remaining unprocessed pumpkins melt into unfortunate puddles and even carrots and beets wither in our inadequate storage area. Still on the menu: spaghetti squash!

He found it on Coffer Court in the Liberty County Development Authority’s Tradeport East.

“Our facilities were on the West Coast, so this is very good to us to reach customers so we can provide quick service to them,” Jiang said. “We are excited.”

“We’re always glad to make an announcement of jobs and opportunities coming to our area,” said LCDA Chairman and state Rep. Al Williams.

Villa Bakery in Garden City is decorating a variety of baked goods with Detroit Lions colors and football themes.

That’s translated into an array of baked goods in Lions colors and a football theme to capture all the “excitement and hype of them (the Lions) making the playoffs.”

VanLue, 50, and her staff began decorating a variety of doughnuts with blue and white icing and topping them with sprinkles of the same colors. The same style of decorating is also used on Villa Bakery’s eclairs. The oblong-shaped eclairs are decorated like footballs, with fudge icing and white strips for laces and some are decorated with white and blue icing drizzles and topped with blue, white, and chocolate sprinkles.

Kokua Line: Is xeriscape garden open to public?

Question: There used to be a succulent garden where the public could learn about different plants that didn’t use much water, and sometimes they gave away mulch, but I don’t hear about it anymore. I think it closed during the pandemic. Will it reopen?

Answer: We believe you are referring to the Halawa Xeriscape Garden, which grows and displays plants that thrive on Oahu without much water, including succulents. The Honolulu Board of Water Supply opened the demonstration garden to the public in 1989, “as a way to educate Oahu residents on ways to save water in lawns, gardens, and landscaped areas,” the BWS website says. The 3-acre xeric garden is closed for a construction project, not still because of the pandemic, and is expected to reopen in April.

The BWS hasn’t given away free mulch at this site since July 2014, the website says, “to align

UPDATE (1/22/24): The Macon-Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission heard from the owners of the Society Garden Monday about the renewal of its conditional use application.

The Executive Director of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Jeff Ruggiere, says the commission is working with the Society Garden to find solutions for parking and reducing noise from live performances.

“We’re trying to find a way to compromise so the Society Garden can still operate at the high level that they’re operating, provide the services that they provide to this community, and still protect the neighborhood from those negative impacts of traffic and noise and lighting and things like that,” Ruggiere said.

The commission voted to defer the agenda item to next month’s meeting. That meeting

Meet the new owners behind the nearly century-old Chelsea Farmer’s Supply

CHELSEA, MI — A nearly century-old Chelsea business has new faces behind its operations.

Husband-and-wife Tobie Brown and Joe Schlenke took over Chelsea Farmer’s Supply at the start of January. The previous owners, HK Leonard and Greg Raye, had run the business since the 1990s.

“I think it’s a huge privilege and an honor to be able to be a part of this story that has continued to grow” Brown said. “Hard work (is why) this place has made it to (nearly) 100 years.”

The small business tucked away at 122 Jackson St. has been open since 1926 and now sells products like wild bird seed, gardening supplies and animal feed for horses, goats, sheep, pigs, chicken, dogs and cats.

The business serves a mix of customers from home gardeners to people maintaining small hobby farms.

The new owners have a background in hospitality and food services, but decided it
