Zakary Ferroni served in the U.S. Army from 2003 to 2012, and today, he grapples with the lasting effects of his service in the form of post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD). This makes it difficult for him to work; his husband, Joe, currently supports the household.

The Home Depot Foundation and HandsOn Greater Phoenix recently teamed up as part of the 2023 Operation Surprise campaign to help Zakary and Joe reclaim their outdoor space. The ultimate goal was to provide a calming, tranquil space to help manage his symptoms and offer some financial relief.

More than 100 volunteers from Team Depot, Home Depot’s associate volunteer force, helped revamp landscaping, upgrade irrigation, paint the home exterior and add outdoor furniture. The team also rebuilt the firepit, replaced broken fencing and made garage upgrades. Zakary and Joe were

Help the Lehigh Valley Outreach Depot

I have too many subjects and not enough columns, so I’m going to cram three topics into this one.

First, I want to offer a plea for a terrific organization I’ve written about several times, but not lately.

It’s Lehigh Valley Outreach Depot.

This group was born in 2010 as a mission project of Wesley United Methodist Church in Bethlehem and relocated several years ago to a warehouse at 619 E. Allen St., not far from Dieruff High School.

It offers furniture and household items from which qualified people — referred by governmental and nonprofit agencies and arriving at half-hour intervals only by appointment from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays — can make selections according to their tastes and needs. Donors can drop items off at the warehouse or call 610-351-1616 to arrange pickup.

Outreach Depot is designed to help people who are reestablishing their lives after

“It’s going to bring us closer together. More of a bonding,” stated Jermaine Wooden. “Even though we have different branches here, we all serve the country and we should continue to serve each other…”

Wooden is a veteran who joined more than 70 volunteers for the project. He said he’s getting his life back on track with help from organizations like U.S. VETS.

“Our main mission is to get homeless veterans off the street into permanent housing and wrap them around with the services that they need to be successful in their community,” said U.S. VETS Vice President of Clinical Services Kim Cook.

‘This is our beginning:’ Iconic Cudahy railroad depot in jeopardy, historical society raising funds for restoration efforts

CUDAHY, Wis. (CBS 58) — What’s the cost when it comes to saving history?

That’s the potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars question for the Cudahy Historical Society (CHS), which was created in the 1970s to restore and preserve the iconic railroad depot on Kinnickinnick Avenue.

The depot itself was built in 1892 after a man named Patrick Cudahy and his family purchased 700 acres to build a meat-packing plant just south of Milwaukee.

They decided to create the train station so plant employees would be able to have transportation, which would eventually lead to them living in the area.

14 years later, and the city they built the depot in would become what we now know as Cudahy.

“It’s been around since before the city was even a city!” exclaimed Cheryl Orlando, the vice president of the CHS. “Patrick Cudahy and this depot are what made Cudahy.”

Home Depot sales dip, but company says long-term outlook good

ATLANTA — Home Depot on Tuesday announced another quarter of declining sales, but it was a dip that was expected as the company works through what officials called a post-pandemic “settling.”

The retail behemoth reported sales of $42.9 billion for the past three months, down 2.0% from the same quarter during the previous year. Net earnings during the quarter were $4.7 billion, or $4.65 per share, down from $5.2 billion, or $5.05 per share, a year earlier.

“We look at 2023 as a year of moderation after the explosive growth we had in the last few years,” said Ted Decker, chief executive, during a teleconference with analysts and reporters.

Earlier this year, the company projected that its sales this year will be between 2% and 5% of the previous year’s revenue, while earnings per share drop between 7% and 13%. Officials Tuesday reaffirmed that prediction.

How much do the Home Depot prefab houses cost? How big are they?

The real estate market has recently been a tough one for prospective home owners, with their dream house seeming to be drifting further away from reach.

The Federal Reserve’s interest rate hikes have made taking out a mortgage more and more unattainable. Renting a place is not the cheapest choice either, with typical asking rents now at $2,018.

These factors have made both owning and renting a home prohibitive, which is probably why Home Depot’s little prefab houses caused the commotion that they did.

The store is offering prefabricated homes that sell from a low of $4,000 to more than $40,000.
