If a soil test calls for it, apply lime to your garden in November

The long-term weather forecast is calling for a continuing string of nice days through Thanksgiving Day. Many gardeners will be able to catch up on garden projects that they may have been putting off. One of these projects that often gets overlooked is liming the garden soil.

If you have been fertilizing your garden regularly with conventional fertilizers for several years in a row, chances are your soil may need lime. November is an ideal time to apply lime.

Lime is a calcium-based soil amendment that farmers and gardeners use to raise the soil pH. Older farmers used to refer to it as “sweetening the soil.”

It’s not a good idea to just guess if your soil pH is low, soil should be tested.

To test for pH only, you can do it yourself with a pH test kit from a garden center. These kits are fairly accurate. Just make

What It’s Like to Shop at Ikea’s Mini Plan and Order Stores

  • Ikea is embarking on a $2 billion expansion of its US operations.
  • Part of Ikea’s strategy is a new, smaller store for shoppers redesigning whole rooms.
  • I visited one of these new stores to see what it’s like to shop there.

Ikea is spending billions to expand in the US, and a big part of its plans rest on small stores.

Most shoppers probably think of huge warehouses filled with everything from kitchen towels to coffee tables to Swedish meatballs when they think of the retailer. But in a $2 billion initiative it announced earlier this year, Ikea said that it would open nine “plan-and-order” stores in the US.

Each store is a fraction of the size of the Ikea you’re probably used to. While an

Garden Retailer Plans 100K SF Project in Collin County

Green Acres Nursery has come up with plans for the 10-acre it recently purchased in Collin County, which will soon be sprouting a $14 million retail center.

The new Green Acres Nursery & Supply in the town of Melissa will cover 99,000 square feet, according to state filings. Construction is expected to start next spring.

The project is located at 1818 Fannin Road, where a single-family home previously stood. The new development will comprise a 25,300-square-foot retail building, a 5,000-square-foot warehouse and 68,400 square feet of greenhouse structures.

The new build is one of the first additions to the 10-acre tract that the California-based company acquired in June. Located in the rapidly expanding town of Melissa, approximately an hour’s drive north of Dallas, it is set to become Green Acre’s second Texas location, following the recent opening of a store in Irving. The company also has acquired sites in Southlake

How much do the Home Depot prefab houses cost? How big are they?

The real estate market has recently been a tough one for prospective home owners, with their dream house seeming to be drifting further away from reach.

The Federal Reserve’s interest rate hikes have made taking out a mortgage more and more unattainable. Renting a place is not the cheapest choice either, with typical asking rents now at $2,018.

These factors have made both owning and renting a home prohibitive, which is probably why Home Depot’s little prefab houses caused the commotion that they did.

The store is offering prefabricated homes that sell from a low of $4,000 to more than $40,000.

Introduction

Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ:NASDAQ:NASDAQ:TSCO) has long been on my watch list, but I never managed to pick it up. Having just returned from the US, I came across a couple of stores, and naturally felt inspired to have a closer look at this niche retailer, who consistently posts strong economics but also, more often than not, trades at a valuation premium.

Who is Tractor Supply Company?

Tractor Supply Company was founded in 1938, 84 years ago, and has served its niche of farmers, ranchers and those enjoying the rural lifestyle, ever since. The company operates just above 2000 physical Tractor Supply stores across 49 states and is by far the most significant retailer in its niche in the US, focusing on meeting the needs of customers within home improvement, agriculture, livestock as well as lawn and garden maintenance. Stores typically

Move over Amazon.com, Home Depot is the new belle of the ball for industrial developers.

The Atlanta-based chain, among other home improvement and construction retailers, is absorbing millions of square feet of warehouse space, as it moves to adjust its supply chain and have more goods in storage. And the company has become an attractive tenant for industrial developers, including Prologis, Duke Realty and Clarion Partners.

In Los Angeles and the Inland Empire alone, Home Depot has signed more than 4.5 million square feet worth of industrial leases so far this year, according to public property records reviewed by TRD.

“It speaks to more consumption, more need for floor space and a supply chain issue,” said CBRE’s Daniel de la Paz. “That extra inventory and getting
