ONE BOOK ONE NEW ORLEANS: Each year, One Book One New Orleans provides copies of its selected book, along with a curriculum, to adult education programs throughout the city, including the New Orleans Public Library’s YMCA Educational Services classroom at the Main Library.

This year, students from YES have contributed pieces inspired by One Book One New Orleans’ 2023 selection, “The Ones Who Don’t Say They Love You” by Maurice Carlos Ruffins.

These contributions were compiled into a collection titled “Up From the Streets,” which features the students’ stories told in their words, about their lives, neighborhoods, and city.

Contributors will read their pieces at a book launch party at the Main Library on Dec. 16 at 2 p.m., followed by a book signing. All in attendance will receive a free copy of the book. Refreshments will be provided.

Jane LeGros is the director of marketing and communications for the Orleans Parish Library.
