Garden Reach Work Over, S Kol Water Supply To Resume Today | Kolkata News

Kolkata: Water supply to large parts of south Kolkata and fringes, which has been suspended since Saturday morning, will resume on Sunday morning. The KMC water supply department, which had to shut down the Garden Reach water treatment plant for urgent maintenance and repairs at the plant, wrapped up the work by Saturday night.
A KMC water supply department official said besides roping in senior engineers of the department, 750-odd skilled labourers were engaged for the repair and installation work.
Water supply was hit in large parts of south Kolkata, including Garden Reach, Behala, New Alipore, Tollygunge and Jadavpur. “We took up a thorough repair and modernization of the Garden Reach plant that includes repairing and installation of higher diameter valves, electro-mechanical drives, H T pumps, high voltage motors/electrical appliances among other necessary work,” said a civic official.
According to a KMC water supply department official, the repair and modernization work at the water treatment plant will ensure better and augmented supply in summer. “We hope to supply water to large parts of south Kolkata the next summer without interruption when the demand for potable water soars,” said the official.
